FRIDAY JULY 9

Drove to Maitland, NS to watch the tidal bore on the Shebenacadie River. The tidal bore is a wall of water 4-6 inches high that pushes the river upstream against the river flow. Here at this point you can hear the sound of the water as it comes in. The water comes in so quickly here that they ride zodiacs in front of it like surfers. In one hour we watched the river rise over 10 feet.

We then went to Peggy's Cove, a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast that has been called the most photographed place in Canada, The lighthouse here has been pictured in many books and magazines. Peggy's Cove became known worldwide as the site of the crash of Swissair 111 that claimed 229 lives in 1998. There is a memorial to those who died there today.
It was foggy, cool and windy there today which is apparently pretty normal but was still worth the visit. The rock formations here are truly massive and there is virtually no soil at all . The weather and the surroundings makes you appreciate those people who live there year round.
Then back to Dartmouth to visit with friends. Gillian and Eric Walker were our pastors in Windsor ON. in the late 1980's and are now enjoying retirement in Dartmouth NS. In the evening we all went to the waterfront and walked along the wharf and enjoyed the Halifax evening.
