Thursday July 15

Well we are about half way through our trip, and just loving it. Today we followed the south shore of Humber Arm about 60 km (40mi) to the point at Lark Harbour. Along the way we saw a monument to Capt. James Cook, according to the write up he was the first European to explore and map NFLD. yup the same Capt Cook the also explored the west coast of North American and the south pacific including Australia and New Zealand. Busy man.
Along the road out to the point there are about 12-15 small fishing villages and all with the homes sitting right up close to the water. We notice that almost all of the houses in NFLD are very small maybe 6-700 square feet, even the new ones. In the cities and larger towns they built bigger homes to about 1200 square feet, there are very few big 25-3000 sq ft homes.
We found a park called Blow Me Down Park, it was very hilly and had a great view from the top of the hill, we were unable to find out the origin of the name but assume that is is to do with the wind in that area. After leaving that area we continued our journey on towards St John's, we drove through mile after mile of up and down hills through conifer forest, hills, rivers and streams. There doesn't appear to be any flat or even roads in the province anywhere.
We stopped in Grand Falls-Windsor for the night and decided to try some genuine Newfoundland food, so we both had Squid rings and fries with dressing and gravy. Nope not gonna tell you how they taste, you gotta try for yourself.
